Alberta Health Services (AHS) officials have issued a warning to residents and visitors to a lake located south west of Stony Plain – after the water was found to be contaminated.
AHS is advising members of the public to not swim or wade in Hasse Lake, or drink the water, due to higher-than-normal levels of fecal coliform found in the water.
According to health officials, the water-borne organism can impact the digestive tract if it’s ingested – and at the current levels, it can cause skin, ear and eye infections for anyone who comes in contact with the water.
Officials said the contaminant was detected during routine testing of the water – and the advisory will stand until further notice.
