A major water main break is putting business on hold at a west Edmonton strip mall.

Fire crews responded to reports of water gushing out of Spence Diamonds, at 17010 90 Avenue, and into to the parking lot.

EPCOR responded to the scene, shortly before 8:00 a.m., and crews were working throughout the morning to fix the problem.

The water also affected Bijou Lingerie and Swimwear and Optix Eyewear.

Fire crews say water main breaks are common when temperatures drop.

“EPCOR’s job is to respond with watermain breaks,” Capt. Darcy Bell with Edmonton Fire Rescue said on the scene. “I’m sure this is not going to be the only one of the morning.”

There's no word yet on when the stores will be able to reopen.
