Officials with Edmonton Fire Rescue said Friday morning that emergency crews were on the scene, after receiving reports that a man at the Workers Compensation Board (WCB) Building was on fire.
Edmonton Fire said firefighters were called to the building, located at 107 Street and 99 Avenue, just before 10 a.m. Friday.
Reports indicated a man was outside the building, and his clothes he was wearing were on fire. Officials said the man lit his own clothes on fire and then tried to get into the building – but security stopped him.
Security staff at the WCB put out the flames before crews arrived.
“I can tell you the security measures were a complete success, our members were here within seconds,” EPS Sgt. Rick Abbott said.
“Nobody else was in any danger at any time because of the security parameters put in place by WCB.”
The man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police said the incident is non-criminal, and as such his identity will not be released.
