Calgary-based airline Westjet has announced regional service in and out of the Edmonton International Airport will be expanded.

The expansion will include more than 60 flights per week to Kelowna, Regina, Saskatoon, Grande Prairie and Calgary.

As part of the expansion, a new non-stop daily flight between Nanaimo and Edmonton will take off for the first time on December 15.

The expansion significantly increases the number of flights from Edmonton to Grande Prairie; increasing from 9 departures each week to 23.

In addition, daily flights between Edmonton and Regina and Saskatoon are being increased, from one daily departure to each destination, to three daily flights.

The flights between Edmonton and Grande Prairie start October 26, while the flights to Regina start October 25. The flights to Saskatoon will start December 15.
