Friday July 1, 2016 marks Canada’s 149th birthday, and there are many events across Edmonton to celebrate Canada Day.
Here is a list of things to do in Edmonton and its surrounding area to help you plan your holiday fun:
Canada Day Fireworks
The main event kicks off at 11 p.m. and viewing locations include:
- Alberta Legislature Grounds
- Victoria Park (River Valley Road)
- Government House Park (Groat Road and River Valley Road)
- Edmonton Ballpark – where you can also take in the baseball game between the Edmonton Prospects against the Regina Red Sox at 7 p.m.
According to the city, no viewing will be available from Kinsmen Park.
Alberta Legislature
From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., there will be family-friendly entertainment and a number of activities for all ages at the Legislature grounds, including live musical events from local talents.
City Hall
The City Hall will be welcoming families to take a tour of the building, and enjoy crafts, displays, and live music and dancing from noon until 4 p.m.
Art Gallery
The Art Gallery will have art activities and exhibitions all for free from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Edmonton Valley Zoo
Celebrate Canada Day and the Edmonton Zoo’s 57th birthday with Canadian animals and red and white cupcakes from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Muttart Conservatory
The Muttart conservatory will celebrate Canada Day with live music, face painting and crafts from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Fort Edmonton Park
Celebrate Dominion Day at Fort Edmonton Park with a parade and a toast to the Queen and more royal activities from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Mill Woods
From 1 p.m. until fireworks begin at 11 p.m., Mill Woods Park will host activities for everyone in the family, including hay rides, carnival games, a petting zoo and live music.
