Some seasonal campers at Wizard Lake will be looking at legal action after Leduc County told them to modify their trailer lots.

According to the owner of the private campground the County has been requesting changes to the area since 2011 but this year their demands were too much.

“They want to remove all the decks and sheds,” Gord Bentley explained.

“Those sites that they have are sites that can have amenities on them without disturbing the natural environment.”

The trailer owners meet on Saturday to discuss their next course of action.

“We wanted to just appeal to the mayor and the council, but they are politicians I guess and they say they don’t have the right to change rulings of an independent board.”

Many campers said if the changes went ahead they would be forced to leave the area, which they have been using for over a decade.

“It would create problems for us to the point where we would have to sell our trailer and not be able to come out anymore,” Diane Criss told CTV News.

There are nearly 70 trailers in the campground and Criss said it had developed into its own community.

“Everybody respects everybody else’s property and we get along. There are not wild parties and no disputes and no fights,” she said.

“It is just a really, really pleasant community that has been now established here and perfect for seniors, for them to feel comfortable.”

Other campers agree.

“It is very unfortunate that someone has come in and with one fell swoop just ripped it apart,” Marlene Peterson said.

Bentley has 60 days to respond to the County’s decision, which has 19 conditions.

The County did not respond to CTV’s request for an interview.
