An Edmonton woman is facing a number of immigration fraud charges.

Officials with the Canada Border Services Agency said four charges have been laid against Janet Chen Macaulay, for alleged fraud while acting as an unauthorized immigration consultant.

In 2011, officials said the CBSA’s Criminal Investigation Section received a complaint regarding Macaulay.

An investigation was launched, and officials discovered she was not authorized as an immigration consultant, but represented corporate and individual clients for a fee.

It’s believed she worked on up to 190 work permit applications, along with up to 10 permanent residence applications between 2006 and 2012 in Edmonton.

Investigators said she was paid to complete and submit the applications, but failed to do so – officials said she allegedly provided her clients with forged documents.

The accused is expected to appear in court August 28.
