The latest victim of homicide in Edmonton is being remembered by friends as a vivacious person who could light up a room.

Andrea Marie Berg, 42, was found dead earlier this week in an alley west of 124 Street and north of 113 Avenue.  An autopsy performed Thursday confirmed Berg died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Berg’s body was tied up and in a shopping cart when she was found.

The horrific nature of her death is disturbing to Berg’s friend Cora Shaw.

“The fact that it happened to somebody that I know and the way that it did…I wonder what kind of fear, I wonder what she was thinking of before she died and wondering why would somebody do this to her?” Shaw asked.

Shaw described Berg as a loyal and protective friend who was extremely loving of her friends and family.

“She loved to volunteer, she loved her community. She just loved people, she was an amazing young woman,” Shaw explained.

The Hope Mission experienced that spirit. Berg was a member of the Hope Mission Community, singing in the church.

“She served in many areas of the community church but what she really loved to do was sing. She sang on our worship team and she had a really lovely voice,” spokesperson Rachael Chan told CTV News.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Edmonton Police Service non-emergency line at 780-423-4567 or #377 on a mobile phone.
