A young woman was hit by a vehicle and critically injured while crossing the street in west Edmonton Wednesday night.
The collision happened at 93 Avenue and 178 Street shortly after 9:30 pm Wednesday.
Police say the 21-year-old woman was in a crosswalk when she was struck by a southbound SUV. The woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, there has since been no update on her condition.
"Unfortunately, there are collisions between vehicles and pedestrians every day," Staff Sgt. Ted Hrebien with the EPS Traffic Section said in a press release. "It's an awful reminder that drivers and pedestrians need to look out for one another."
No charges have been laid against the 67-year-old male driver of the SUV.
Traffic investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call the Edmonton Police Service non-emergency line at 780-423-4567 with any information.
