Carmen Leibel

Carmen Leibel is the anchor of CTV News at Five. Before taking on the 5:00 news desk, Carmen was the host of the popular “Your Health” segment where she routinely interviewed top researchers and medical professionals, offering Edmonton viewers a glimpse of the latest developments in medical research and health care.
Born in Edmonton and raised in St. Albert, Carmen set her sights on one day working at the television station she grew up watching. Following the completion of studies in Radio and Television at NAIT in 2003, she began her career as a video journalist for CTV News in Yorkton, Sask. She soon made a move to the CTV station in the neighbouring market of Prince Albert, Sask. where she had the opportunity to cover stories of national interest, including a high profile court case and wildfires that had affected the region.
In 2004, she reached her lifelong goal and accepted a position at CFRN, now known as CTV Edmonton.
Carmen is a proud member of the community and dedicates time supporting a number of charities, includingthe Canadian Breast Cancer Society, Wellspring Edmonton, the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society, Canadian Blood Services, and Autism Speaks.
In 2014, Carmen was recognized with the Excellence in Media award by the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. She lives in St. Albert with her husband Jared and together they have two young daughters, Olivia and Julia.
