EDMONTON -- One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash on a northern Alberta highway Friday morning.

RCMP, fire and emergency crews responded to the crash on Highway 43 at 9:10 a.m., said police.

Beaverlodge RCMP said an SUV was heading southeast on Highway 43 when the driver lost control, went into the lane of oncoming traffic, and crashed into a pick-up truck heading northwest.

The driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old man from Fort St. John, B.C., died on scene said RCMP.

The 50-year-old man driving the pick-up truck, also from Fort St. John, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

All lanes of Highway 43 re-opened at approximately 1 p.m.

Beaverlodge RCMP are still investigating the crash.
