1 in hospital, RCMP searching for 2 men after firearms incident
Morinville RCMP are investigating after a man was sent to hospital after a shooting in Sturgeon County.
At 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the Lily Lake Resort after receiving reports a person was suffering from a gunshot wound.
A 30-year-old was airlifted to an Edmonton hospital with a serious, life-threatening single-gunshot wound, RCMP Const. Patrick Lambert told CTV News.
Throughout the early morning hours, there was a heavy RCMP presence in the Lily Lake Resort area, and residents were asked to shelter in place until around 9 a.m.
Investigators believe two individuals came to a property near the resort and encountered the 30-year-old, who was then shot.
"What led to that engagement between those three people," Lambert said, " what criminality was transpiring, unfortunately, I just don't know that."
According to Lambert, the shelter-in-place order, which was in place for three hours, was issued to help investigators probe the multiple crime scenes near the resort and search for the suspects.
"This particular case, it was not what one might describe as an active shooter or something to that respect," Lambert added.
"This was something where we recognized we were in a rural community with the potential for campers, and we wanted to ensure that as they were going about their business early in the morning, they could make informed decisions."
As of 8:53 a.m., police were searching for two “persons of interest.” Both people were described as being men in their mid-20s, one with blonde hair and one wearing a ski mask.
Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 780-939-1600 or Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
