A 17-year-old from Maskwacis was arrested after stealing a vehicle with its owner hanging from the truck bed and hitting multiple vehicles in Wetaskiwin Saturday afternoon.

Wetaskiwin RCMP said a stolen white Chevrolet GMT-400 was travelling east on 50 Avenue approaching the traffic circle on 47 Street at approximately 4:05 p.m. when it drove around a red Ford Windsor, caused minor damage to it, and drove into the blue Dodge Journey, pushing it back into the traffic circle.

The owner of the pickup truck flew off the bed of vehicle after the second collision, and was taken to the hospital – along with the driver of the Dodge Journey – with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The stolen truck sped through the traffic circle and entered the Manluk Centre, and came to a stop in the east side of the parking lot, RCMP said. The suspect fled on foot, but was located and arrested moments later.

Charges are pending against the 17-year-old.
