Ward Eleven

Profile:

Ward Eleven can be described as diverse. It is home to people of dozens of different religions, cultures and backgrounds. The Ward is where South Edmonton Common is located and includes many industrial areas. The neighbourhood of Mill Woods has been the talk of this Ward for several years as council has tried to work to decrease crime in the area.

Population: 61,916
Eligible voters: 44,086
Neighbourhoods: 44
Councillor: Kerry Diotte (since 2010)

Key Issues:

The LRT. It was supposed to be taken south through the Ward but the Provincial and Federal governments have not come up with the necessary cash for the project so it has been delayed. The councillor elected in this Ward will have to decide whether to lobby for the project to get back on track even if it means raising taxes, or to let it take a few years longer than first expected.
