Ward Five

Profile:

Ward Five contains a large portion of Edmonton’s newest neighbourhoods but also some of its oldest. When the Anthony Henday opened in the Ward the area saw tremendous growth that has not stopped. Two new neighbourhoods, Edgemont and Riverview, have just been approved in the Ward contributing to the growth. There are several golf courses and parks in this Ward.

Population: 66,600
Eligible voters: 49,987
Neighbourhoods: 28
Councillor: Karen Leibovici (since 2001)

Key Issues:

The congestion is bad getting into the downtown core in the mornings….it will only get worse with two new neighbourhoods approved, Edgemont and Riverview. Aside from that, the new councillor must juggle a very split Ward as half is older neighbourhoods and the other half is growing and new therefore, they have drastically different issues.
