2 boys charged after a truck was driven through west Edmonton outdoor rink
Two boys, ages 13 and 14, have been charged after a truck was driven through the outdoor rink at Grovenor Community Park.
Police were called to the park at 144 Street and 103 Avenue around 2:20 a.m. on Monday.
"Upon police arrival two male youth were taken into custody and are both facing numerous charges in relation to the incident," Sgt. Daniel Tames of Edmonton Police Service wrote in an email to CTV News Edmonton on Tuesday.
The vice president of the local community league said the incident may have been captured on security footage. A police report and an insurance claim are being filed.
"This shocking incident has been very disruptive to our normally very safe and quiet Grovenor community," Gerry O'Donnell wrote in a statement Tuesday evening.
"The biggest impact would be the possibility of not being able to have our hockey rink available for our pick-up hockey program and other skating activities this winter. However, we do have a second general skating rink as well for public use."
A number of boards at the rink were damaged during the incident, but O'Donnell said a damage estimate was not yet known.
