Red Deer RCMP have laid more charges against a former teacher charged in September in alleged sexual assaults dating back to the 1970s.

Police said three days after they announced charges related to the first case, they received another complaint from a second woman, who was 15-years-old when the alleged incidents took place.

Now, 70-year-old Warren Fertig is facing two additional charges, which were added on Thursday, November 3.

Fertig now faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of indecent assault on a female (charges laid on November 3)
  • One count of rape (charges announced on September 16)
  • One count of sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 14
  • One count of sexual intercourse with a female between the age of 14 and 16

RCMP began investigating the first case in May 2010, after a woman complained.

It is alleged Fertig, who was a teacher at Riverglen School at the time, had an inappropriate sexual relationship with the girl between 1975 and 1977.

The woman was 12-years-old when the relationship began and 15 when it ended.

The second woman came forward on September 19, 2011, and was a student at Riverglen School in 1971 when the alleged incidents took place.

The accused was released on bail, and will appear in court again on December 13.
