Alberta's chief medical officer of health has resigned after three years on the job. Dr. Andre Corriveau has decided not to renew his contract.
Corriveau arrived in Alberta from the Northwest Territories and he says he's heading back to his old job as the chief medical officer of health for the Territories. He moved to Edmonton just about a month before the panic over H1N1 hit Alberta.
"You know I was looking for a new challenge and I really got it," he told CTV News.
Corriveau's contract was set to expire at the end of the month, and with his wife still living in Yellowknife he had a choice to make.
"It was a hard decision. I agonized for about a month actually back and forth in my mind and talking to my wife and trying to discern what was the right thing to do at this point in my career."
Corriveau says he will stay on until the end of May to help select a replacement and ease the transition.
