A day after police were called to a south side bank on reports of an armed robbery, ASIRT has reported the man shot by police passed away Wednesday morning.

At about 2 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to a Canadian Western Bank on 21 Avenue and 99 Street on reports of an armed robbery.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team said two officers entered the bank, where they encountered the alleged suspect who was armed with a handgun.

Police confirmed the 24-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries in the incident – he was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery.

ASIRT is investigating the incident, because two officers discharged their weapons.
