Fatal snowmobile collision in Springwater Township

A young man is dead after a tragic collision between a snowmobile and a pickup truck.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say the snowmobile was crossing George Johnston Road when it was struck by a pickup truck at around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

A 22-year-old Utopia man was declared dead at the scene.

Through social media, OPP advised motorists that George Johnston Road between Snow Valley Road and Hindle Lane was closed.

It reopened shortly after 1 a.m.

OPP said contributing factors to the crash was poor visibility due to heavy snowfall and the wind.

Emergency services were on scene for several hours.

Police say next-of-kin has been notified.
