Several collisions reported along Highway 11 as driving conditions deteriorate

Weather causes collisions on Highway 11 A section of Highway 11 was closed early Monday afternoon after several collisions due to poor road conditions.

Highway 11 was closed briefly in Oro-Medonte on Monday afternoon as driving conditions deteriorated, causing multiple collisions.

Police said the area between Line 2 and Line 3 in Shanty Bay was closed shortly after noon.

“Driving conditions are snow covered,” OPP stated. “If you have to be on the road, drive according to conditions. Postpone travel if possible.”

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning on Monday for much of central Ontario, including areas along Highway 11.

The weather agency anticipates upwards of 20 centimetres of snowfall throughout the day and into the night.

The weather agency says the snow should be in the rearview mirror as it tapers off to flurries with a risk of freezing drizzle by Monday night.

With visibility expected to be suddenly reduced at times, police urge motorists to take care on the roads and adjust driving to the conditions.

Highway 11 has since reopened.
