Snowmobile season up north is within reach.

After months of winter work, preparations continue to move forward, including the opening of some trails, shared The Muskoka Sno-Bombers, a Bracebridge Ont., group dedicated to the maintenance and longevity of organized snowmobiling.

While some progress has been made such as staking trails and monitoring conditions—the lack of frost and running water in the forest presents some major challenges.

The Town of Bracebridge installed a floating snowmobile bridge on Nov., 21 near Beaumont Drive and Santa’s Village Road. This allows snowmobilers to safely travel over the Muskoka River, shared the town.

“Swamps remain barely frozen, with snowmobiles breaking through on first passes”. However, the compacted snow provides an excellent base for grooming once conditions improve, the group continued.

Updates are coming, including changes to the Interactive Trail Guide (ITG), expected to take place next week. Muskoka Sno-Bombers Inc. says riders are encouraged to monitor the ITG for the latest trail status as preparations continue.

Muskoka Sno-Bombers Inc., say that the problematic beaver ponds appear to be low, offering a promising start to the season once the weather cooperates.

According to Environment Canada, snow in Simcoe Muskoka is expected in the forecast mid-week, with flurries carrying out until Friday.
