After spending the last few days in custody in BC, the man accused of pulling the trigger in a shooting and robbery on the U of A campus is back in Edmonton.
Police said Travis Baumgartner was brought back to Edmonton Wednesday, landing at the City Centre Airport in an RCMP airplane at about 2 pm before being whisked away under heavy security.
Now that he’s in Edmonton, he has been officially charged with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and four counts of robbery with a firearm.
The move comes after he was apprehended on Saturday, June 16, while trying to cross the Canada – US border near Abbotsford, BC.
He had been the subject of an international manhunt, and Canada-wide murder warrants were issued for his alleged role in the armed robbery and triple homicide that took place early Friday morning.
G4S employees Michelle Shegelski, 26, Brian Ilesic, 35, and Eddie Rejano, 39, were shot and killed in HUB Mall at the U of A.
A fourth victim Cpl. Matthew Schuman, 26, remains in hospital in serious, but stable condition.
Baumgartner is in custody at the Edmonton Remand Centre; his first court appearance has been scheduled for Thursday morning.
