Investigators have identified the body of a woman found in a rural driveway east of Edmonton on Thursday, who police believe may have been a prostitute.

Police believe the woman is Brianna Danielle Torvalson, 21, of Edmonton.

Investigators have not said whether Torvalson was killed on the acreage near Township Road 534 and Range Road 220, or if her body was dumped there.

Torvalson's great-aunt says that she is still in shock from the news. "It is like it happened to someone else that you don't know," said Claire Torvalson.

Police have not confirmed that Torvalson was a prostitute, but RCMP Cpl. Darren Anderson said, "there was indications that there was involvement in a high-risk lifestyle."

Some family members have said that she did work as a prostitute to pay for her alleged drug addiction.

Torvalson's great-aunt wasn't able to confirm Brianna's involvment in the sex trade but said, "I had heard she was into drugs."

Torvalson was not known to Project Kare, but the police unit, which investigates the death of high-risk individuals, is now helping the RCMP in the investigation.

Police have not released a cause of death.

They are asking anyone with information to call them at the Strathcona County Detachment at 467-7741.
