They are the super-moms and their admirers, side by side, taking part in a Mother's Day charity event. Not only are they celebrating one another, but they are helping out a cause that's dear to every mother's heart.

More than 2,000 participants laced up their runners to either walk or run a five or 10-kilometre course at Foote Field for the Mother's Day Run and Walk Sunday morning.

The women use the event to celebrate each other's strength, and to push each other's limits.

"I think running has given us a bond," said Joanne Platana, who was running with her daughter, Marie Lemmerick.

"It's at least an hour of chat time," said Lemmerick. "She's very inspirational, which is why I started running in the first place."

With each step, participants raised 100,000 dollars for the Stollery Children's Hospital. That money will go towards the emergency ward as well as ultrasound equipment.

"My daughter was at the Stollery a few years ago and they were awesome," said Roxanne Bulat. "I wanted to give something back so this was my chance."

In Calgary, more than 15,000 people took part in the sister race.

While moms down south and here at home spent their special day helping others, they say they wouldn't have it any other way.

"Our kids cheered us on," said Bulat. "It's a good thing."
