Mounties have laid charges in connection to a fatal hit-and-run near Smoky Lake, Alta.
Police say the collision occurred on Highway 885 about five kilometres south of Smoky Lake on Saturday morning.
The pedestrian killed in the crash has been identified as 51-year-old Clayton Bradley Prockiw.
Police say Prockiw was walking along the highway when he was struck and killed by a vehicle.
Prockiw’s body was found lying in a ditch by a passing motorist.
Investigators were still on scene Sunday afternoon, gathering evidence from several locations along the highway.
RCMP Sgt. Steve Smith said police located the vehicle that may have hit Prockiw.
Smith says police have one suspect in custody.
"We were able to determine what type of vehicle it was from some of the debris that was left behind at the collision scene and we were able to track the vehicle to an individual," Smith said.
Police said late Sunday that the victim's brother, 49-year-old Blaine Alexander Prockiw of Smoky Lake, has been charged wtih failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor.
Officers continue to investigate.
Smoky Lake is located about 120 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
