EDMONTON -- A seven-year-old child was killed and four other people were injured in a fire involving several mobile homes in Red Deer County Friday morning.

The child's body was found in one of the homes in Les's Trailer Park at 9 a.m., after the fire was extinguished.

A man, a woman, and two boys were taken to hospital. Some of their injuries were considered life threatening.

Blackfalds RCMP said they were called to the trailer park, west of Red Deer, around 1 a.m. The fire was said to have started in one home, spread to a second, and caused damage to a third. Firefighters evacuated surrounding properties.

"I arrived first on scene shortly thereafter to a fully involved structure," said Scott Tuton, Red Deer County fire inspector.

"My initial attack crews got here and we deployed attack lines and attacked the second structure and protected the third structure."

A search of the three homes was still underway as of late morning. Officials were expected to remain on scene for the rest of Friday.

RCMP and fire investigators are looking into the incident.
