Citywide residential parking ban now in effect
Phase 2 of the city’s parking ban began at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning for snow clearing in residential neighbourhoods.
Crews will be removing snow in neighbourhoods Monday through Friday, 24 hours a day. The ban is expected to last 10 to 14 days, depending on weather.
"Each neighbourhood is banned for about 72 hours in order to give crews time to clear the residential roads of ruts and divots that have resulted from the snowfalls,” said Valerie Dacyk, general supervisor of infrastructure field operations with the City of Edmonton Tuesday morning.
People are asked to park in their driveway, garage or any roadway that’s been cleared where parking is normally allowed.
Under phase 2, vehicles parked on residential roads in neighbourhoods may be ticketed, but enforcement won’t be towing vehicles. During phase 1 of the parking ban in November and December, the city issued 405 tickets and 15 warnings.
When cars aren’t moved, crews will work around vehicles since they’re not able to delay clearing.
Dacyk says people will see bright yellow signs at the entrance of all neighborhoods to find out when the ban will begin for their area.
People can go to the city’s website to find out where and when crews are working and which roads have been cleared.
You can also subscribe to receive service notifications through email or text specific to your address for when roadways are scheduled, in-progress and completed.
