Edmonton city council approved the capital and operational budgets Friday morning.

The city will spend more than seven billion in the next four years in new projects and existing services.

The capital budget will invest $2 billion in the renewal of existing infrastructure, $1.8 billion in projects like the LRT expansion and Yellowhead Trail, and an extra $1 billion in new projects.

The operating budget will see property taxes increase 2.6 per cent yearly until 2022—around $65 extra every year.

The tax increase will support the Valley Line LRT, Alley Renewal Program, the Edmonton Police Service, and transit safety.
