Fire fighters near Grande Prairie are battling a wildfire near the Weyerhauser mill.

Fire chief for the County of Grande Prairie, Everett Cooke, said there were about 45 people, including pilots, working to fight the fire back Saturday afternoon.

The blaze is on the south side of the county and residents have been advised to stay away from the area.

Cooke explained it is a popular spot for ATV and other recreation activities.

He added that the blaze was about 20 hectares in size but was being knocked back by aircraft efforts.

Crews are expecting to be working on hot spots in the area for the next couple of days.
