Edmonton police said an early-morning home invasion on the city’s north side, that left one man dead, and a married couple severely beaten, was under investigation.
Police said officers in Northeast Division were called to a home on McConachie Blvd. at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, after a break and enter and aggravated assault was reported.
Investigators found the husband and wife, who were at home at the time of the break in, had been tied up, blindfolded and seriously assaulted after the suspects demanded drugs and money.
Police said the home was likely wrongfully targeted.
Shortly after the break in, reports indicated shots had been fired in the home. Officers arriving on scene found a man in the basement of the home, who appeared to have been shot.
That injured man was treated and taken to hospital, where he died later Tuesday morning.
Police said the injured couple was severely beaten in the incident; the husband remained in hospital later Tuesday for treatment of his injuries.
In addition to that house, police said the neighbouring home was also being investigated as part of the file – Homicide Detectives are investigating, and released descriptions of two suspects related to this shooting.
The first suspect is described as:
- Black male
- About 177.5 cm (5’10”) and 183 cm (6’) tall
- Early to mid-20s
- Clean-shaven
- Slim build
The suspect was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and darker jeans, and dark gloves. The suspect was also wearing dark, round, thick-rimmed eyeglasses.
The second suspect is described as:
- Male
- About 177.5 cm (5’10”) and 180 cm (5’11”) tall
- Late 20s
- Stocky or heavier build
- Short beard
The suspect was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and sweat pants.
Both suspects were reportedly speaking in broken English, or with accents.
