A multi-vehicle crash closed down a section of 178 Street at Stony Plain Road in Edmonton's west end for several hours on New Year's Eve.

The street was closed in both directions Tuesday afternoon and remained closed at 5:30 p.m.

Police said westbound traffic on Stony Plain Road had also been reduced to two lanes.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area.

No other details on the crash were given.
