A candidate in the PC nomination bid for Edmonton-Meadowlark has claimed he is innocent of any wrongdoing that cost him his place in the race.

On Friday the PC party announced that Tom Choucair was disqualified but released few details.

“The PC Alberta Nomination Committee has decided to disallow the candidacy of Tom Choucair in Edmonton-Meadowlark,” a release stated.

“As such, the scheduled vote for Saturday, March 14th will go forward with two candidates: Katherine O'Neill and Steve Benson.”

In a media release issued Saturday Choucair demanded the party release details of their decision to disqualify him or else issue an apology.

“Let me be clear, neither I, nor any person attached to my campaign, had anything to do with the allegations of wrongdoing leveled against me,” Choucair’s statement read.

Choucair told CTV News he and his team were “devastated” by the decision.

“We worked really hard. We have been knocking doors since November.

“We have signed up over 500 memberships - new to the PC Party so we are very devastated.”

He also said he had been approached by certain members of the Party who asked him to drop out of the nomination.

“My response remained “No”. All I wanted was a fair fight.”

According to the PC Party Twitter account, the results were in Saturday evening.
