Josh Classen's forecast: Staying warm with some weekend snow
Precipitation is playing a bigger factor in the forecast over these next few days than it has in a while.
We're dealing with some scattered pockets of showers and mixed precipitation in the Edmonton area early this morning and there's some heavier rain/snow mix in areas from Edson southeast toward Red Deer.
Roads are likely slick this morning, although 511 isn't reporting any significantly ice-covered highways in those areas or around Edmonton.
The precipitation will flip over to showers this afternoon in areas from Red Deer east toward the Saskatchewan border.
Edmonton should be done with the scattered precipitation by late this morning or midday.
We'll see some sunny breaks develop briefly this afternoon.
Temperatures will climb to the 5 C range this afternoon and then a brisk and cool northwest flow will develop tonight with a little cold front set to sweep through.
We're looking at a good chance of flurries in and around Edmonton this evening with gusts in the 40-50 km/h range.
So, blowing snow could be an issue this evening.
The gusty conditions stick around through most of Saturday and temperatures will hover just slightly above 0 C for most of the day before dropping in the mid-to-late afternoon.
We'll probably have some snow in the region for much of the day, but it's the afternoon and evening that have the best chance to give us some accumulation.
1-4 centimetres looks likely by early Sunday morning.
Daytime highs just slightly above 0 C for Sunday/Monday with morning lows in the -5 to -9 C range.
THEN...we're back to highs near 5 C and mornings just slightly below 0 C for Tuesday/Wednesday.
Temperatures are still expected to drop around Jan 18-19 (probably below -10 C for daytime highs).
So, this warm spell won't last forever. But, it WILL stick around right through to the middle of next week.
Here's the forecast for Edmonton and area:
