Police officials confirm one of their own will have to answer to the courts after an alleged on-duty incident that happened 16 months ago.

Cst. Frank Quaidoo, who has been with the Edmonton Police Service for about nine years, is accused of using undue force when he and others responded to Eastglen High School on May 12th, 2008.

At the time, there were reports a School Resource Officer was involved in a confrontation with two males in a parking lot, and had been knocked unconscious.

One of the suspects who was arrested accuses Quaidoo of punching him while he was in the back of a police cruiser.

"There is another officer with the same name and so we just had to confirm years of service and certain types of information that the media is always looking for," said EPS spokesperson Clair Seyler, referring to the reason for the time it took for the charge to be made public.

The officer is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Wednesday, October 27th.

Police say he remains on active patrol duty in Edmonton's north division at this time.
