A young Edmontonian is among the 50 people who have made the short list for the so-called "Best Job in the World" - caretaker of a tropical Australian island.

Linda Hoang's video application to be a caretaker of an Australian island is now in the top 50, chosen from a pool of 34,000 entries.

"I think I came across in the video as someone who really wants to do this...try something new, and you know I think I would really capture the attention of people on this island for six months," Hoang told CTV News.

Queensland Tourism launched the contest hoping to attract visitors to the Great Barrier Reef.

The winner will spend six months creating promotional blogs about the area and will earn about $124,000.

The next round of voting ends March 24th.
