The cold weather did not slow down many Edmontonians on Saturday.

Several were out enjoying the winter weather and all it has to offer.

"It's Edmonton so I guess we're used to it," Kathy Mansfield said.

Mansfield and her son decided to hit the slopes for the day despite the wind chill causing the temperature to hover around -30 C.

"I've lived here all my life and it's fantastic," Todd Letwin told CTV News.

"We get out and make the best of it."

Al Amiri agreed.

"You just got to layer up, you know, that's the only way."

Others spent their time helping those who live on the streets prepare for the cold weather.

"We carry a complete stock on the van of sleeping bags, blankets, clothing, personal hygiene items," Ed Madge from the Hope Mission explained.

He said he and his wife would drive around checking on the homeless and handing out bagged lunches and hot chocolate.

There have been eight homeless camps set up in various parts of the city and many refuse to find shelter at city organizations.

"Because of the violence that is happening downtown," Madge explained, "They feel safer out there at minus fifty below than they do coming downtown to a shelter.
