Edmonton Police are warning residents about a violent offender recently released from prison – who will live in the Edmonton-area.

Police said Jonathan Sidney Burd, 43, was recently released from the Bowden Institution.

Burd just completed a sentence of more than nine years for a number of charges including counts of forcible confinement, uttering threats, and weapons charges.

It’s believed Burd poses a significant threat to the community, and is at risk to reoffend violently.

He’s expected to live in the Edmonton-area, and will be monitored by detectives in the EPS Behavioural Assessment Unit.

Burd is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • 180 cm (5’11”)
  • 77 kg (170 lbs)
  • Brown hair
  • Brown eyes

Police said the warning was being issued after careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the believe that it’s in the public interest to inform residents – but is not intended to encourage any form of vigilante action.
