Edmonton police are warning car owners that thefts of rims and tires are on the rise throughout the city.

Police said between September 19 and 23 – seven thefts were carried out in a number of southeast Edmonton neighbourhoods, another took place on Thursday in that area.

Police said the thefts in the southeast part of the city happened in the following neighbourhoods:

  • Goldbar
  • Holyrood
  • Kenilworth
  • Kiniski Gardens
  • Minchau
  • Wildrose
  • Hillview
  • Daly Grove

A number of other incidents have been reported on the city’s north and west sides over the last month.

Investigators have not discovered a specific pattern for the reported thefts, except that all events happened in residential areas overnight.

The suspects have targeted no particular year, make or model of car – and the vehicles affected were either parked in driveways or on a street in front of a home.

Some of the cars were found jacked up, while others were left on cement blocks.

To prevent being targeted, police are advising vehicle owners to use lug nuts to lock their rims.

If anyone notices suspicious behaviour – they are asked to call the Edmonton Police Service non-emergency line at 780-423-4567.
