One person is dead after a violent altercation with police that left an Edmonton officer wounded.
Edmonton police say that around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, officers executed a search warrant in south west Edmonton when a shootout with the suspect occurred.
Police engaged in gunfire with the suspect who was shot and killed.
Blood-stained police gear, including a vest and automatic weapon, could be seen lying in the grass approximately 75 yards from the body.
An EPS spokesperson says the male officer who shot during the incident sustained non-life threatening injuries.
An area in the Brander Gardens neighbourhood of Edmonton (149 A St and 53 Ave) remains cordoned off.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in, and will be taking over the investigation.
