There has been a setback for the family of a Grande Prairie teen who has made huge strides in recent months.

A vehicle belonging to Zach Judd's mom, Desiree, was stolen in Edmonton on Tuesday.

"They took my means of getting [Zach] to his therapy, of getting us home," Desiree Judd said Wednesday.

Her son was the only survivor of a Grande Prairie car crash that left four of his friends dead in October.

The family has been staying in Edmonton during Zach's recovery at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital.

Desiree held back tears as she spoke with reporters Wednesday.

"I just can't believe that people do this kind of thing. You see what the community and what the people did for us when the accident happened, and then it takes one person to do something like this, and it takes it all away."

The stolen Dodge Durango had several items of sentimental value to the family in it, including autographed memorabilia from the Edmonton Eskimos.

Upon hearing about the loss of the items the Eskimos have since replaced some of the gear that was in the SUV.

Judd says the last time she saw the vehicle it was in the parking lot of the condominium building they have been staying in.

Police are currently investigating.
