The family of six teens killed near Lloydminster Saturday have placed a memorial at the scene of the collision.

Police said the collision happened around 4:20 a.m. six kilometres south of the city between a tanker truck and a car the youth were travelling in.

Friends identified the victims as:

  • Jayden Boettcher, 16
  • Aimie Hurley, 14
  • McKenzie Moan, 14
  • Kris Tavener, 17
  • Tarren Attfield, 15
  • Naomi Salas-Schafer, 13

Attfield’s father, Dalbert, described his son as a handsome little man.

“Everybody loved him. We just can't believe it,” he said through tears.

“It’s so hard to believe it's even real. I don't know what to say. It's so sad.”

Dalbert placed a wooden cross at the place where his son died, which read “These young lives were lost much too soon.”

“I see it in the ditches where other people have had family that has died,” he explained.

“I just wanted to put it there.”

Dalbert said the family went to say goodbye to Tarren even though they knew he was already gone.

"We still had to go and see him, kiss and hug him goodbye. He was all broken up, broken wrists and everything,” he explained.

A friend of the teens, Danson Parkin, said the loss has changed his life.

“I'm remembering them so I can live for them,” he said.

Parkin described Jayden as the happiest guy anyone could know.

“I cried obviously, it's my best friend, I grew up with him.

“I don’t think you're ever going to be able to let go of something like that,” he added.

“You have to put it away and live for it.”

RCMP have said there will be support offered to those affected by the loss.
