EDMONTON -- Firefighters closed Parsons Road in south Edmonton Monday evening while working to extinguish an inferno inside of Hui’s Wontons.

Seven fire trucks were dispatched at 5:55 p.m. to the strip-mall restaurant located at 99 Street/Parsons Road and 34 Avenue.

Cori Nicholls called 911 after spotting smoke billowing from the building.

"Drove by and saw smoke, and then past the intersection saw flames coming out of the window," Nicholls said while watching fire crews.

After calling fire, Nicholls said she went door-to-door alerting people in neighbouring businesses to evacuate.

No one was injured, and the blaze was declared under control at 7 p.m. and out at 7:33 p.m.

Hui’s Wontons was closed when the fire started, and it appeared the damage was contained to the one business.

An Edmonton Fire Rescue spokesperson said investigators were still working to determine a cause and damage estimate, as of 10 p.m.
