RCMP in northern Alberta said five people were taken into custody Thursday evening in Grande Prairie.

Police said officers received reports that there was a man with an outstanding warrant for his arrest at a home in the area of 101 Avenue and 106 Street in Grande Prairie Thursday evening – and there was reason to believe the man may have had an assault-style rifle in his possession.

Officers went to the home, and were to wait for K Division Emergency Response Team resources to arrive and help officers.

However, before they arrived, five people came out of the home and were taken into custody without incident.

When the ERT arrived, they ensured the home was clear – and Grande Prairie RCMP took over to search the house.

By Friday morning, four of the five people arrested had been released – but one man remained in custody pending further investigation.
