Tehran based Press TV is reporting Somali kidnappers will kill Canadian journalist Amanda Lindhout, if a $2.5 million ransom is not paid in the next two weeks.
The media outlet reported Monday that the kidnappers issued a warning to one of their reporters in Mogadishu.
Lindhout and Australian freelance photographer Nigel Brennan were kidnapped on Aug 23 near Mogadishu.
Lindhout, a Sylvain Lake, Alta. native worked for Press TV out of their Iraq bureau.
Reporters Without Borders confirmed the ransom demand at the beginning of September.
Katherine Borlongan, executive director with Reporters Without Borders in Montreal, said the organization has received independent confirmation that the kidnappers are seeking $2.5 million US for the return of all four captives.
She said the group holding Lindhout are the same faction that was responsible for the kidnapping of two Italian aid workers earlier this year.
An official with the Department of Foreign Affairs in Canada said the Canadian government's priority is the safety of its citizens and would not comment on the ransom demand.
