A former Red Deer teacher is facing charges in a sex assault that dates back to the 70's.
Red Deer City RCMP say they initiated an investigation back in May of 2010 after receiving a complaint. It is alleged that the accused, who was a teacher at Riverglen School at the time, had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student between 1975 and 1977.
The female student was 12-years-old when the relationship started and 15 when it ended.
Warren Fertig, 70, of Red Deer has been charged with one count of rape, one count of sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 14, and one count of sexual intercourse with a female between the age of 14 and 16
Furtig was released on $50,000 cash bail to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on November 3rd.
