On Thursday, Edmonton police said a Fort McMurray man had become the fourth person charged in connection to the 2015 stabbing of a 23-year-old man.

Police said Jonathan Piche, 32, was arrested by Fort McMurray RCMP at a home in that city on Wednesday evening. He is now charged with first degree murder, and three counts each of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Piche is the fourth suspect to face charges stemming from the stabbing death of Deng Mathew Garang Tong, 23.

Back on Sunday, February 22 at about 3:30 a.m., police were called to a weapons complaint in the area of 102 Street and 107 Avenue, where two males were found suffering from stab wounds. Officers were then directed one block away, where they found Tong suffering from stab wounds in an apartment at 103 Street and 107 Avenue.

Tong was treated on the scene and taken to hospital by paramedics, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Back in March, police said Billy Joe Nelson, 37, and Tyler Strathdee, 27, had both been charged with first degree murder, along with three counts each of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

In April, police said Clinton Robert Kailek, 26, was also facing the same seven charges.
