A Lac La Biche man accused of possessing child pornography made his first court appearance Monday.

Daniel Quiring Stoesz, 62, was charged with possessing child pornography and making them available through the Internet after Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team's Internet Child Exploitation unit (ICE) began investigating after receiving information from the FBI in Connecticut about the possibility someone was distributing child pornography over the internet from the Lac La Biche area.

Stoesz was escorted by two sheriffs into the small town courthouse Monday where a judge granted his release. He has spent four days in jail after being charged.

On Dec.1st, Lac La Biche RCMP along with members of the ICE unit executed a search warrant on the home, and seized a number of computers, and electronic storage devices.

Stoesz was not at home at the time, but was later found and arrested by RCMP members in Bonnyville.

The ICE unit found the accused is employed by the Government of Alberta, as a foster care supervisor in the Lac La Biche area.

Investigators seized computer equipment and storage devices from his workplace.

His release comes with strict conditions. He will not be allowed to contact anyone under the age of eighteen, he must find a new residence approved by the court and he cannot have access to the Internet.

Stoesz must abide by these conditions until his next court date on January 23rd. He has yet to enter a plea.
