Friends and family of Edmonton's latest homicide victim laid the young man to rest at a funeral service Saturday afternoon.

Dozens of people paid tribute to 22-year-old Motiuk at a candlelight vigil on Friday night.

Friends and family lit candles and let go of balloons in Motiuk’s honour.

“He was the nicest, funniest guy in the world. The most caring, most giving and forgiving person that I know,” said Motiuk’s brother Jason.

“He’s my brother. I miss him so much.”

Motiuk had been stabbed at a house party in Mill Woods on Monday.

He was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

In an interview earlier this week with CTV News, Motiuk’s father Terry said he was still coming to terms with the sudden loss of his son.

“(His life was) just taken away by senseless idiots, these criminals,” Terry said.

“I assume a gang mentality got away from them, and they took it out on my poor Michael.”

There is no word yet on arrests or charges.
