Roxanne Berube, 36, and her daughter Jazmine Lyon, 16, two of the victims in the triple homicide that occurred at a rural residence northeast of Edson on November 29, were laid to rest Saturday afternoon.

Family and friends crowded into the Niton Junction Community Hall, located about 45 kilometres east of Edson, to say goodbye.

“Simply knowing that people care, that’s what we do in a small community – we look after each other,” said eulogist John Myslicki.

“[I] want to let people know what kind of loving [people] Roxanne and Jazmine were because a lot of people [only] know the names,” he said.

Berube was remembered as a caring mother to five children.

“She just loved family. She loved going outside and quading through the mud - getting totally covered,” he fondly recalled.

Berube’s second eldest child, Jazmine Lyon, loved animals and the outdoors.

“She was like her mom – a kind, loving person. She enjoyed music as her mom did,” Myslicki added.

Niton Junction Pastor George Stone said Saturday’s funeral is meant as a way for the family to heal.

“It really is comforting for the families to know how their loved ones were appreciated and what they meant to other people,” he told CTV News.

While Edson RCMP confirm Berube and Lyon, along with Daniel Miller, 46, were murdered, a motive remains unclear.

Investigators have not released the causes of death, saying it would hamper their investigation.

Mickell Clayton Bailey, 19, is facing two charges of first degree murder in the deaths of Berube and Lyon, and one count of second degree murder in Miller’s death.

Bailey is scheduled to appear in court on December 15.
